About the Artist
Colette Balcaen is a Franco-Manitoban artist whose work blends textiles, drawing, sculpture, and mixed media. Inspired by her heritage, she uses threads and textiles to bring history and identity to life in her art.
She has exhibited widely in Canada and internationally at venues such as La Maison des artistes visuels francophones, the Canada Textile Museum, and the Biennale internationale du Lin de Portneuf. Highlights include her award-winning Story Keeper at the 2015 Port Moody Wearable Art Awards and her 2020 installation Farandole, celebrating Métis culture in France.
